dragon history

Welcome, traveler, to Draconika Dragons. This site contains a number of articles on dragon information, a community forum, and a gallery of dragon pictures. Draconika was started as a project for a college English class in 2004. Since then, it has grown to be one of the premier websites about dragons on the Internet. I hope you will find this to be the best dragon resource on the web.
Dragons have long enchanted us through stories, artwork, and legend. The lion may be king of the jungle, but the dragon is king of mythology.

Dragon Legends—Truths Behind the Tales

Dragon Legend MapAustralia

In the far north of Queensland, Australia, Aborigines from the Kuku Yalanji tribe described and painted a sea and lake monster that looked surprisingly like a
plesiosaur.

China

Chinese dragons, well-known throughout the world, even appear on China’s twelve-year calendar cycle. Eleven of these animals are common today (dog, rat, monkey, etc.), so why assume that the twelfth (a dragon) was mythological? The Travels of Marco Polo describes some of these long and lanky “serpents,” which included short legs and claws. He claimed the Chinese would use special methods to kill these dragons. Some of the dragons’ body parts were used for medicinal purposes, and others were eaten as a delicacy.

Dragon Types

There are many different types of dragons. From cruel and vile to cunning and majestic, dragons have inspired, or terrorized, many throughout history. All are a force to be reckoned with. Two of the main kinds of dragons in modern fantasy are metallic dragons, which are good, and chromatic dragons, which are evil. This article will describe different kinds of chromatic dragons—black dragons, red dragons, blue dragons, green dragons, and white dragons. You may also be interested in wyverns, which are dragon-like creatures, and our complete list of dragon species

Black Dragons

Black dragons are vile, evil tempered, and obsessed with death. They live in fetid, swampy habitats. They find comfort in the sickening-sweet aroma of drowned, rotting carcasses. The black dragon's domain is the swamp and the jungle. They are abusive, quick to anger, and malevolent. Their hearts are as black as their slimy scales.
Black DragonA black dragon can be identified by his grim, skeletal appearance. His eyes lie in deep sockets. His two great horns curve forward and down. The flesh of his face appears to have partially deteriorated, as if burnt by acid. Acidic slime drools from his menacing grin. He smells of rotting vegetation, foul water, and poisonous acid.

Red Dragons

Red Dragon

Red dragons are greedy and covetous, and obsessed with increasing their treasure hoards. They live in warm habitats, such as volcanoes or tropical islands. The red dragon's domain is is the mountain and the island. They are vain, cunning, and terrible.
A red dragon can be identified by is long wings and two long horns. He has a long, red, forked tongue. Tiny flames often dance in his nostrils when he is angry. His eyes gleam with unrestrained greed when he has seen treasure. He smells of smoke and sulfur

Blue Dragons

Blue Dragon
Blue dragons are pensive, lawful, and vain. They live in hot, dry areas, such as sandy deserts or arid steppes.
A blue dragon can be identified by his frilled ears and a single horn upon his head. His eyes are smooth, glossy, and without pupils-when looking at them, you may feel as though you are looking into eternity. The dry scent of ozone and sand follows a blue dragon wherever he goes.
He loves to soar in the hot desert air. He is a dedicated carnivour who will eat snakes, lizards, and occasionally even desert plants, but truly prefers herd animals such as camels. Blue dragons are a real threat to caravans crossing the desert. He prefers to attack people in ambush. Surprise and distance is his greatest ally. They enjoy sitting and reflecting. He is blue-blooded (that is to say, cold, effete, or noble.) He is lawful and has some sense of morals.

Green Dragons

Green Dragon
The green dragon is a belligerent creature and master of intrigue, politics, and backbiting. He is cruel. He prefers forests—the older and bigger the trees, the better. Instead of being overtly aggressive, he prefers to concoct elaborat schemes to gain power or wealth with as little effort as possible. He may make his lair behind a waterfall or near a lake, pond, or stream that provides a submerged entrance. The closer one gets to his lair, the darker the woods become. Evil hangs in the air, mingling with the forest scents to produce foul odors.
The green dragon's head is covered in hornlets. He has a long neck and legs, and resembles a brontosaurus.

White Dragons

White Dragon
White dragons are small and intelligent. They live in frigid, icy climates — usually arctic areas, but sometimes very high mountains. They travel alone, and have very good memories. They prefer the solitude of snowy plains and caves, far away from the warming rays of the sun.
A white dragon can be identified by his sharp, intelligent-looking eyes and intense expression. His scales resemble fur, or even feathers, in places. His wide feet and sharp claws help him to walk atop snowbanks. An aura of coldness seems to eminate from the white dragon.

Dragon

This article is about the legendary creature. For other uses, see Dragon (disambiguation)

dragon is a legendary creature, typically with serpentine or reptilian traits, that features in the myths of many cultures. There are two distinct cultural traditions of dragons: theEuropean dragon, derived from European folk traditions and which is ultimately related to Greek and Middle Eastern mythologies, and the Chinese dragon, with counterparts in Japan, Korea and other East Asian countries.
The two traditions may have evolved separately, but have influenced each other to a certain extent, particularly with the cross-cultural contact of recent centuries. The English word "dragon" derives from Greek δράκων (drákōn), "dragon, serpent of huge size, water-snake".[1]
In Ancient Greece the first mention of a "dragon" is derived from the Iliad where Agamemnonis described as having a blue dragon motif on his sword belt and an emblem of a three-headed dragon on his breast plate.[4] However, the Greek word used (δράκων drákōn,genitive δράκοντοϛ drákontos) could also mean "snake".
In 217 A.D., Flavius Philostratus (GreekΦλάβιος Φιλόστρατος)[5] discussed dragons (δράκων, drákōn) in India in The Life of Apollonius of Tyana (II,17 and III,6–8). The Loeb Classical Library translation (by F.C. Conybeare) mentions (III,7) that "In most respects the tusks resemble the largest swine’s, but they are slighter in build and twisted, and have a point as unabraded as sharks' teeth."
According to a collection of books by Claudius Aelianus (GreekΚλαύδιος Αιλιανός)[6] called On Animals, Ethiopia was inhabited by a species of dragon that hunted elephants. It could grow to a length of 180 feet and had a lifespan rivaling that of the most enduring of animals.[7]

Kamen Rider Kuuga

Kamen Rider Kuuga (仮面ライダークウガ Kamen Raidā Kūga?) is the protagonist andeponymous character of the 2000 Kamen Rider Series Kamen Rider Kuuga. Unlike other Heisei Rider series that have at least 2 characters who are considered Kamen Riders, Kuuga is the only Kamen Rider appearing in the Kuuga series. In the series, he is referred simply as Kuuga. His motif is the stag beetle. Kuuga's name in Japanese comes from the readings for "clear-self" (空我 Kūga?)."Godai" translates to "five great" and is also one of the names for the five elements in Japanese philosophy. This relates to Kuuga's forms and their relations the five elements.
An alternate version of Kuuga appears as one of the main supporting characters in the 2009 series Kamen Rider Decade. Yusuke Godai (五代 雄介 Godai Yūsuke?, portrayed by Joe Odagiri) is a young, happy-go-lucky, multi-talented man said to possess 1999 (later 2000) different abilities. He is an honest person that fights to protect everyone's smile. He and his younger sister, Minori, lost their mother while they were both young and later their father in Afghanistan when they were older and living with their father's friend Tamasaburo Kazari. Yusuke's trademark, along with his positive-thinking ideology, is to always give a thumbs up (the Roman sign to convey that everything is alright) to everybody around him.
On the day he returns to Japan from Indonesia at the airport, Yusuke's life changes as he returns with a mask for Sakurako Sawatari, who assisted in Professor Natsume's archaeological finding of the Linto (リント Rinto?) Tribe and a mummified corpse. The finding creates a disruption, unsealing a strange monster that attacks the archaeologists. Receiving a distress call from them, Yusuke makes his way to the excavation site, seeing the light that marks the rebirth of the Gurongi Tribe. By the time he arrives at the scene at daybreak, he finds the police investigating the area and meets detective Kaoru Ichijo and finds a strange belt tied to the visions he's been seeing. He later meets Ichijo as he and Sakurako are brought to police station to learn the archaeologists were all slaughtered by the mysterious monster, later referred to as "Unidentified Life Form #0", before being given the belt, the Arcle, to translate the markings on it.

Stephen Farrelly[5][9] (IrishStíofán Ó Fearghaile) (born January 28, 1978)[5] is an Irishprofessional wrestler and actor, best known by his ring name Sheamus,pronunciation: /ˈʃməs/.[10] He is signed with WWE, where he is the reigning World Heavyweight Champion.[11]
Prior to joining WWE, Farrelly was also a two-time International Heavyweight Championduring his tenure in Irish Whip Wrestling. He is a three-time World Champion, having held the WWE Championship on two occasions and is the current World Heavyweight Champion in his first reign. He also won the King of the Ring in 2010 and the Royal Rumble in 2012, as well as the WWE United States Championship onceOn the 30 June 2009 episode of ECW, Farrelly made his unannounced debut as a villain under the shortened ring name of Sheamus, quickly defeating a local competitor.[1][68] Sheamus soon entered into a critically well-received[69] rivalry with Goldust after defeating him on 29 July.[70]After exchanging victories in the following weeks[70][71] the two appeared on the Abraham Washington Show talk segment[72] leading to a No Disqualification match on 1 September which was won by Sheamus.[69] Sheamus then began a feud with Shelton Benjamin which was hot-shot into a deciding match on 27 October which Sheamus won.[73]
His rivalry with Benjamin ended prematurely because Sheamus had already been moved to theRaw brand. He made his Raw debut by defeating Jamie Noble on 26 October.[74] In the following weeks, he continued to attack Noble causing him to retire,[75] and, in lieu of competition, assaulted the timekeeper and commentator Jerry Lawler on 16 November at Madison Square Garden.[76] The following week Sheamus appeared on his first WWE pay-per-view event,Survivor Series. Sheamus appeared as part of The Miz's team in a traditional five-on-five elimination tag team match. He eliminated fellow Irishman Finlay and made the final pinfall to eliminate the opposing captain John Morrison and survive along with The Miz and longtime former rival Drew McIntyre.
The following night on Raw, Sheamus won a "break-through" battle royal for wrestlers who had never won a world championship, to become the number one contender to John Cena's WWE Championship. At the contract signing immediately afterwards, Sheamus put Cena through the table as the Raw guest host Jesse Ventura announced it would be a Table match.[77] On 13 December at TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs pay-per-view, Sheamus defeated Cena to win the WWE Championship, his first championship in WWE,[78] making him the first Irish-born WWE Champion.[13] The following night on Raw, Sheamus was awarded the 2009 Breakout Superstar of the Year Slammy Award.[79] At Royal Rumble, Sheamus defeated Randy Orton by disqualification, following interference from Orton's tag team partner Cody Rhodes.[80] On 21 February, Sheamus lost the WWE Championship at the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view in the Elimination Chamber match after he was eliminated by Triple H.[81] During the match, Sheamus suffered a concussion and as a result did not attend Raw the following night.[82][83] Upon his return, he took revenge on Triple H with an attack to set up a match at WrestleMania XXVI that Sheamus lost.[84][85] The following month at Extreme Rules, Sheamus attacked Triple H at the beginning of the show and later defeated him in aStreet Fight. After a series of kicks to the head to win, he continued his assault after the match finished resulting in Triple H being written off television for ten months.[86]

Sheamus as the 2010 King of the Ring.
On June 20 at Fatal 4-Way pay-per-view, Sheamus won a fatal four way match, following interference from The Nexus that allowed him to pin John Cena, thus winning the WWE Championship, and beginning his second WWE Championship reign.[87][88] He went on to defeat Cena a third time in a steel cage match to retain the championship at the WWE Money in the Bank pay-per-view,[89] and against Randy Orton at SummerSlam, which ended in disqualification, meaning that Sheamus retained his title. At Night of Champions, Sheamus was pinned by Randy Orton in a Six-Pack Elimination Challenge for the WWE Championship.[90]
He bounced back on 29 November, with wins over Kofi Kingston and John Morrison to become King of the Ring, after receiving a bye through the second round.[91] As King Sheamus, he faced Morrison again at the TLC: Tables, Ladders and Chairs PPV for a future WWE Championship match but lost the Ladder match.[92] Going into 2011, he continued to lose to Morrison in a mixture of singles and tag team matches.[93][94] Triple H returned on 28 February and took revenge for his scripted ten month injury by putting him through the announce table. Right after that, Sheamus was defeated by Evan Bourne who returned to Raw after a four month injury.[95] On 7 March, after losing a match against Daniel Bryan, Sheamus challenged him to a rematch with his WWE career on the line against Bryan'sUnited States Championship.[96] He won his match against Bryan the following week, winning his first United States Title.[97] The rematch between Sheamus and Bryan took place on 3 April, during the preshow of WrestleMania XXVII, and ended in a draw after interference from the lumberjacks.[98] The next night on Raw, Sheamus retained the United Staes Championship against Bryan in a rematch. After the match, the debuting Sin Cara saved Bryan from an attack by Sheamus.[99] In the 2011 Supplemental Draft, Sheamus was drafted to the SmackDown brand. Sheamus made his SmackDown debut on the 29 April episode, attacking Kofi Kingston. Although he took the United States Championship with him, he lost it back to the Raw brand at Extreme Rules when Kingston defeated him in a Table match.[100][101]

[edit]The Great White; World Heavyweight Champion (2011–present)

Sheamus as World Heavyweight Champion in April 2012.
On the 3 June episode of SmackDown, Sheamus lost a World Heavyweight Championship match to Randy Orton due to biased refereeing from Christian, beginning a turn from a villainous character to a fan favorite over the following weeks.[102] Two weeks later, he was put in a match against Christian with a stipulation that if Sheamus won, he would be able to compete in the World Heavyweight Championship match atWWE Capitol Punishment. Kick to defeat Del Rio and retain the World Heavyweight Championship.[127]
